What are rotational mouldings?
Rotational moulding or molding (both are acceptable spellings) is a flexible and versatile process for creating hollow items, usually of thermoplastic. You will find that the phrase is often shortened to rotomoulding or rotomolding.
Fine ground powder is loaded into a mould and heated externally until the powder melts and fuses to the walls of the rotating mould.
The mould is gradually rotated (usually around two perpendicular axes). As most requirements are for the mould to be a similar thickness throughout, the mould continues to rotate during the cooling phase.
This amazing process was applied to plastics in the 1940s, but was not used as often as it is now. It was a slow process, restricted to a small number of plastics. Over the past 20 years, improvements in process control and developments with plastic powders have resulted in a significant increase in usage and popularity.
Orchid Plastics use the very latest technology to produce the moulds and products to very high standards.
